Harriman', which is awarded by the National Democratic Institute in Washington, HSLS general secretariat said.
ZAGREB, 11 Aug (Hina) - Zlatko Kramaric, Croatian Parliament
representative, mayor of Osijek and vice president of the Croatian
Social-Liberal Party (HSLS) is one of the recipients of this year's
renown democracy award 'W. Averell Harriman', which is awarded by
the National Democratic Institute in Washington, HSLS general
secretariat said. #L#
This distinguished award is presented every year to
individuals from the United States and other countries who are
consistently supporting democracy and the exercise and protection
of human rights, the statement said.
A statement by the National Democratic Institute said that the
award was presented to Kramaric for his contribution in the struggle
for democratisation of Croatia, respect for human rights and
courageous and consistent opposition to war and nationalism.
This year's recipients are also U.S. senator Edward M. Kennedy
from the U.S. State of Massachussetts, Tuzla mayor Selim Beslagic
and the president of the Serbian Civic Association Vesna Pesic.
This year's democracy awards will be presented to the
recipients at a ceremony to be held at the end of this year.
