ASSISTANCE -
$ SCHLEE
SARAJEVO, Aug 8 (Hina) - The German government's commissioner for
the return of refugees and the reconstruction of Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Dietmar von Schlee, on Friday told reporters in
Sarajevo the international community, Bonn included, was willing
to assist the return of refugees through economic measures, but,
he stressed, this assistance would be denied to those places
which obstructed the process.
After a visit to central Bosnia, Schlee strongly condemned
the latest incidents in Jajce, pointing out that after demanding
so of Central Bosnia Canton officials, he got clear assurances
that violence against refugees would not be repeated.
Places which incited violence could not count on our
assistance, said Schlee, adding he expected a return would be
guaranteed to persons who recently fled their homes around Jajce
by 17 August. An undisturbed return was also expected to all
other places, including Travnik, he added.
Schlee, formerly a minister of the interior, also announced
the German government and Germans in the Stabilization Force in
BH would provide a more substantial assistance to infrastructure-
building in Jajce, especially the water-supply system.
In order to achieve better coordination of activities
concerning the return of refugees and the reconstruction of BH,
Schlee announced special headquarters, to closely cooperate with
the governments of BH and Germany, would be established in
Sarajevo and Bonn.
