REPS OF CRO GOVT, UNTAES, EUROPEAN COMMISSION SIGN MEMORANDUM ON R ECONSTRUCTION, MINE-CLEARING

ECONSTRUCTION, MINE-CLEARING VUKOVAR, July 11 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Government, UNTAES and the European Commission on Friday signed an agreement memorandum to begin the reconstruction of the Marinci village in eastern Slavonia, and the mine-clearing of 100 houses in the Kusonje village in western Slavonia, the Vukovar-based Centre for the Development and Reconstruction of the Croatian Danube Region said. The memorandum was signed in order to step up the two-way return pilot-project, agreed on by Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and UN's transitional administrator for the Croatian Danube region, Jacques Klein, at their last meeting, the centre added. Operative teams of Croatian enterprises which shall, in line with Croatian Government plans, perform the reconstruction, today visited Marinci where, according to the centre, war damage has been listed. According to Ilija Rogachev, an official at UNTAES' department for displaced persons, the agreement memorandum does not mention the number of houses to be reconstructed, nor the reconstruction deadline. In Kusonje, Croatian teams shall clear of mines 100 houses, Rogachev said, adding that the job will in part be financed by international funds. On behalf of the Croatian Government, the agreement memorandum was signed by the head of the Centre for the Development and Reconstruction of the Croatian Danube Region, Ivan Krstanovic, by Gerard Fischer on behalf of UNTAES, and by the UNTAES general advisor for economy, Didier Fau, on behalf of the European Commission.
