BOSNIAN AUTHORITIES MUST NOT BACK ISLAMIC EXTREMISM - DOLE

SARAJEVO, June 23 (Hina) - A former U.S senator and a challenger to Clinton at last year's presidential elections, Robert Dole, has said in Sarajevo that the further support of Washington to Bosnia will depend on consistent implementation of the Dayton agreement and on restoration of pre-war multiethnic composition of the country. At the end of his tour to Sarajevo where he arrived at an invitation of a co-chairman of the Bosnian ministerial council, Haris Silajdzic, Dole said at a news conference that Bosnian authorities must not let the politicisation of the army or support to the Islamic extremism. It was important to prevent further cases when Croats or Serbs lost their jobs at the state administration, he added. The United States has helped Bosnia-Herzegovina in different ways, by a sum of six billion dollars. American tax payers would not want to give any more money if it was not used for restoration of multiethnic society, he added. During his visit, that was said to be a private, Dole was received by the Bosnian Presidency president, Alija Izetbegovic. (hina) jn mš 232311 MET jun 97
