SARAJEVO, Mar 21 (Hina) - Deputy chief commander of the
Stabilization Force (SFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH), General
Roderick Cordy-Simpson, on Friday called a meeting with the
commanders of the Army of BH, of the Croatian Defense Council and
of the Bosnian Serb army, in order to warn them that they must not
permit units under their command to take part in actions that could
cause tension or represent a threat to peace in the region, SFOR
spokesman Andrew Saddleton said.
The meeting would focus on the events in Mostar and Gajevi,
northern Bosnia, he added.
The commanders were also expected to present to the SFOR
headquarters a plan to reduce the number of objects containing
weaponry and military equipment in order to facilitate supervision,
Saddleton said, adding that such a measure should further fortify
trust.
He added that a temporary suspension on the removal of
weaponry found by SFOR members outside the allowed objects had been
lifted as of today. Such weaponry would in the future again be
taken away and destroyed, Saddleton said.
He announced that the SFOR command would willingly allow the
sides in BH to again use radar systems necessary for anti-aircraft
defense. Such systems would have to be situated at specially
approved locations, but their activation would continue to require
special permission, Saddleton said.
After signing the Dayton Accord, the sides in BH were forced
to turn off all radar systems, otherwise these would be destroyed.
NATO then took overall control of the air space.
