Speaking at a press conference in Zagreb on Wednesday, Nilsson
expressed hope that SUSH activities would yield good results.
The Croatian government should have regular meetings with
tenants' representatives in order to solve current housing problems
as effectively as possible, he said.
SUSH should soon hold three seminars on housing situation in
Croatia, Nilsson said.
The World Association of Tenants is a candidate for the full
membership in the U.N. commission for housing, he said, adding that
the decision on its membership would be made in April in Kenya.
The buy-off of nationalized, confiscated and other flats will
be slowed down if adequate regulations are not adopted soon, SUSH
representatives said.
The procedure of filing requests for the buy-off of flats has
been going on since the beginning of the year, but not a single
contract on purchase and sale has been signed yet.
There are 30,000 confiscated and nationalized flats, 13,000
privately-owned flats, 5,000 superintendents' flats and 2,000 flats
which underwent adaptation, in Croatia.
