GENEVA, March 10 (Hina) - The UN Human Rights Commission, on Monday
began its 53rd annual assembly in Geneva.
Over next five weeks experts and diplomats of UN member-
countries will consider all forms of violations of human rights in
the world.
They are expected to deal with issues of violations of rights
in general, and to study the human rights situation in certain
regions and countries from Tibet, Chechnya, Zaire to the area of
former Yugoslavia.
The first-day speeches also tackled the human rights situation
in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Burundi, Zaire and Cambodia.
According to some diplomatic sources, U.S. representatives are
consulting with several delegations about contents of a special
resolution that will outline estimations and recommendations for
promotion and improved protection of human rights in the former
Yugoslavia.
