ZAGREB, Feb 5 (Hina) - An Assistant Foreign Minister of Croatia,
Hido Biscevic, on Wednesday received the charge d'affaires of the
Yugoslav (FRY) Embassy in Zagreb, Momir Radosavljevic, at his own
request, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Radosavljevic notified the Croatian official of Serbian
President Slobodan Milosevic's initiative for starting legal
procedure to recognize Serbian and Montenegrin 17 November 1996
local elections results.
Evaluating as positive the readiness for a democratic
settlement of internal political relations in the Federal Republic
of Yugoslavia (Serbia/Montenegro), Biscevic said he was expecting
that recognition of the elections results would help stabilize
political developments in Yugoslavia in the interest of
Yugoslavia's fulfillment of its international obligations toward
the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE),
Dayton Accords and the Agreement on Normalization of Relations with
the Republic of Croatia.
Biscevic reaffirmed Croatia's interest in continuing to
normalize relations with Yugoslavia to the benefit of the entire
peace process and completion of peaceful reintegration of the
Croatian Danubian area.
According to him, Croatia is expecting that Yugoslavia firmly
supports activities of the Transitional Administrator of the
Croatian Danubian area, General Jacques Klein, and of the Croatian
Government in preparations for elections in eastern Slavonia within
the envisaged time frame.
Biscevic and Radosavljevic considered the appointment of a
Yugoslav ambassador to Zagreb, and continuation of negotiations on
certain provisions of the Normalization Agreement, that are of
great importance to citizens of the two countries.
