RETURN OF MOSLEM REFUGEES TO STOLAC PLANNED FOR NEXT WEEK

SARAJEVO, Feb 6 (Hina) - International officials in Bosnia- Herzegovina have won assurances from Croat authorities in the southern town of Stolac for a planned return of Moslem refugees next week, UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko said in Sarajevo on Thursday. During Wednesday's meeting with senior international police force officers and UNHCR officials, Stolac police chief Nikica Markic agreed that his officers should ensure an unimpeded return of refugees, Ivanko told a news conference. International police officers demanded from Markic firm assurances that there would be no recurrence of incidents similar to that which had happened a week ago when a group of Croats prevented Moslem refugees from entering the town. UNHCR spokesman Kris Janowski described the Stolac meeting as encouraging and announced that 14 Moslem families were returning to the town most probably later next week. (hina) vm 061614 MET feb 97
