ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of Counties
concluded a session on Wednesday after unanimously endorsing a bill
on the administrative boundaries of counties, towns and
municipalities. The upper house was schedule to continue the
session on Thursday.
After several hours of discussion, deputies also backed
several dozen draft amendments proposing town status for a number
of communities and the transfer of some towns from the
municipalities they were currently part of to the neighbouring
municipalities.
Assistant Administration Minister Antun Palaric said that the
bill envisaged the city of Zagreb as a separate territorial unit,
the establishment of 42 new municipalities and the abolishing of 14
municipalities which had failed to become viable. The bill also
proposed that 28 municipal centres be granted town status, he
added.
