ZAGREB, Nov 11 (Hina) - Croatian Journalists' Society (HND) held
assembly in Zagreb on Saturday when it accepted changes of the HND
Statute and discussed a programme for its work.
In an introductory speech, the HND head, Jagoda Vukusic, spoke
of the status of journalists' profession.
Vukusic reminded the assembled members that several laws on
journalists' work had been passed last year. She stressed that it
should not be important for criteria of this profession who owned
the print or electronic media. Both a legislation framework and
self-regulating mechanisms were important for the status of
journalists, she said.
The assembly accepted rules for journalists' prizes.
A text of guidelines for covering forthcoming elections by
Croatian dailies and the Croatian Television (HTV) was distributed
to the assembly's participants. Vukusic said that the guidelines
should be accepted as incentives to thinking over the issue and as
proposals of Croatian journalists to Croatian journalists in the
run-up to elections.
