ZAGREB, Dec 10 (Hina) - Croatian Health Minister Zeljko Rainer on
Thursday said he expected parliament representatives will find,
based on presented data, the best solution for financial problems
in the health sector which, he emphasised, had not arisen now, but
existed from 1996.
Rainer was speaking ahead of a parliamentary debate on a health
situation report, to be held next week.
"Clearing extant losses in the health sector will make no sense
unless the entire health financing model undergoes changes in the
future," said Rainer.
The current model, based on the employees' salary contributions,
has been spent and cannot cover the increased requirements of high-
technology health services.
Rainer said it was necessary to find additional funds to help the
health sector survive and clear amassed debts. He discussed the
matter with the Premier and the Finance Minister on a daily basis.
The Health Minister also pointed out it was evident that neither the
current nor next year's budget could earmark cash money for the
health sector. It was necessary to find a new financing model, he
said.
