SIBENIK, Nov 29 (Hina) - Croatian Police broke a large chain of arms
smuggling on Saturday, and confiscated a large quantity of all
sorts of arms, in Central Adriatic town of Sibenik.
The head of Sibenik-Knin Police Department, Marijan Tomurad, told a
press conference on Saturday, that this was the biggest
confiscation of arms in Croatia.
The weapons were discovered in two wear-houses, one of them located
in downtown Sibenik, and the other in a suburb of the town. Weapons
were also found in one truck with Bosnia-Herzegovina licence
plate.
In the truck the police discovered a container loaded with weapons,
as well as 20 wooden containers loaded with several hundreds of
different kinds of guns, machine guns, mortars, missile, snipers,
shells, ammunition, hand grenades, and more than 500 flack
jackets.
The police arrested five persons, one local and four BH citizens.
Arrest warrants have been issued for two more persons, still on the
run, under suspicion of participating the arms smuggling.
The exact number of weapons remained unknown because the police has
not yet examined the entire context of the containers, however the
value of the confiscated arms has been estimated to US$160,000.
Most of the weapons were new and had not been used, only small
quantities showed marks of usage. Some of the confiscated arms were
made in Croatia, while many were made in other countries.
