ZAGREB, Nov 11 (Hina) - The problem of insolvency and loss in the
entire Croatian economy is primarily a political, and only secondly
an economic issue, Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) president
Nadan Vidosevic told Hina on Wednesday.
The problem surpasses the view of one party, party block, or a
specific group of economists, and Croatia will have to deal with it
in the next few years, Vidosevic said.
Later in the month, businessmen, economists, and representatives
of competent ministries will convene at the HGK to discuss a study
on insolvency, drafted by a group of experts.
According to Vidosevic, the study, which represents a basis for
operational drafting and has been commissioned by the HGK and the
Economy Ministry, is currently being considered by the
government.
The insolvency level in Croatia is according to various estimates
between US$ 2 billion and US$ 8 billion. Most economists warn that
unless solving the issue commenced, the Croatian monetary system
was very likely to collapse.
