SARAJEVO, Nov 10 (Hina) - The international community will exert
great pressure on Bosnia-Herzegovina's Croats and Bosniaks
(Moslems) to adopt legal solutions which would provide BH
Federation Television and Radio functioning as soon as possible,
and without any influence of political parties, said on Tuesday a
high international official in BH in charge of the restructuring of
the media.
He pointed out that the international community's basic goal is to
ensure the public electronic media to stop being a device for the
promotion of party interests, adding that the same criteria would
apply to Croatian Radio Television (HRT), if the HRT continues to
promote its programme on BH territory.
We wish to establish pure democratic principles of media, according
to the model of developed European countries, said the media
expert.
International factors assessed that all three sides in BH still
show ambition to supervise the electronic media, and thus ensure
their stay in authority.
They can do this only with the media which they establish and
finance. In this country, however, almost every village has a
radio-station which is being financed from the public budget, is
aimed at promoting a party's interests. Such a thing should not be
allowed, said the same source.
Negotiations on transforming BH's Radio Television into a public
radio-television institution of BH Federation are reaching a
crucial stage, and in next two months it should be decided on how the
institution would be financed.
The financing would most likely be provided by ensuring a permanent
source of income, i.e. charging subscription through bills for
electric power of phone.
The media expert noted that the two entities are to decide upon a
unified state programme, after the Federal Radio Television is
reorganised.
?he problem of re-airing the HRT programme in BH would be solved by
business arrangements between the Croatian Radio and Television
and the Federal Radio Television.
What HRT was doing is in absolute contradiction with all
international standards. The HRT is using frequencies and
transmitters of another state, concluded the high international
official to BH.
