6 OPPOSITION PARTIES REQUEST INVESTIGATING BODY FOR SECRET SERVICES

( Editorial: --> 8014 ) ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - Six opposition parties at the Croatian Sabor (Parliament) have sent into parliamentary procedure a proposal on the establishment of an investigating commission, whose task it would be to probe into possible cases of misuse of and anti- consitutional and illegal activities in intelligence-security services. The proposal was signed by the presidents and representatives of the six-member Opposition - Social-Democratic Party (SDP), Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Liberal Party (LS), Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) and Croatian People's Party (HNS). The investigating commission would be in charge of general supervision of the said services for the sake of discovering possible cases of misuse and self-willed activities which are contrary to the Constitution and laws, HNS president Radimir Cacic told reporters speaking about yesterday's meeting of the six opposition parties and the conclusions adopted. After yesterday's session of the Parliament Committee for Internal Affairs and National Security, the opposition parties are even more convinced that such a commission should be formed, said Cacic. Discussed at yesterday's meeting, along with other issues, was a declaration on multi-ethnicity and multi-lingualism in the Istria County, following a letter by IDS president Ivan Jakovcic to the presidents of the other five parties. The opposition parties will take a joint stand that the bill on the official use of languages and scripts of national minorities should enable county authorities to adopt decisions on the equal use of minority languages within the counties. The said bill has passed the third reading in the Sabor and is yet to be voted on. (hina) rml/sp 131442 MET oct 98
