WASHINGTON, Sept 28 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic
on Monday held talks with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan about the
mandate of the UN monitoring mission on Prevlaka.
Prevlaka is Croatia's southern-most tip bordering with the
Yugoslav Republic of Montenegro to which Yugoslavia has
pretensions.
Granic is heading a Croatian delegation to the 53rd session of the
UN General Assembly in New York, at which he is to hold a speech
Monday night, local time.
Annan is to submit a report to the UN Security Council on the
situation on Prevlaka, with a recommendation on the future mandate
of the 30 UN monitors currently on the peninsula.
Granic forwarded to Annan Croatia's wish that the UN mandate ends
with the completion of the present mandate, on January 154 next
year.
Granic invited Annan to visit Croaia, and handed him a letter in
which it is stressed that Croatia is making itself available to
cooperate in UN's peace missions in other parts of the world.
Granic also held talks on Monday with Hungarian Foreign Minister
Janosz Martoni about the relations between the two countries, and
the construction of a highway from Croatia's port of Rijeka to the
Hungarian border, the establishment of a free zone in the port and
its use.
