RIJEKA, Sept 14 (Hina) - Rijeka's Viktor Lenac ship repairing yards
on Monday completed works worth $40 million in refurbishing the
"Lochnagar" for its Norwegian owners.
The ship, which was previously used as a supply ship and will now be
used to lay pipes, was refurbished according to contracts signed
with two leading Norwegian firms - Farstad Shipping Asa in Alesund
and DNSD Sondenfjeldske in Oslo.
The ship was extended from a length of 82.4m to 105m, and widened
from 18m to 23m, while its carrying capacity was increased from
2,735 to 6,700 tonnes.
It was built with a new plant motor and other mechanical equipment
and systems, and cabins for 60 people were also refurbished.
It was equipped with steel construction of a total mass of 1,000
tonnes, and the latest hydraulic, electrical and other systems.
The shipyards management expressed satisfaction that the
successful alteration and re-equipping of the "Lochnagar" had
returned the firm to this sector of the world shipbuilding market.
