ZAGREB, Sept 8 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Tuesday accepted a proposal by Justice Minister Milan Ramljak to
pardon Split resident Jadranka Basic, which frees her from
continuing to fulfill the rest of her prison sentence.
The Split Municipal Court sentenced Basic to four months prison
because of a criminal offence of illegally occupying a flat.
The 40-year-old self-supporting mother which the Municipal Court
conditionally judged because of illegally entering a flat, whose
tenancy rights were held by the legal executive of "Adria Color".
Basic had worked at the company for 17 years before being
dismissed.
Following an appeal by the flat's owner the verdict was altered into
a four-month prison sentence, given that Basic did not accept the
settlement in which she had been offered the payment of rent for a
period of a year.
After she was dismissed and it was impossible to resolve her tenancy
status, together with her two children on April 22, 1995 she moved
into the empty flat of 46 square metres in Split.
