CROATIA SUPPORTS TRIAL OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCKERBIE INCIDENT

( Editorial: --> 6395 ) ZAGREB, Aug 27, (Hina) - Croatia fully supports Great Britain's and the United States' initiative to hold the trial for those responsible for the Lockerbie tragedy in The Netherlands, under Scottish laws and a panel of international judges, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday. The Croatian Foreign Ministry stressed on Thursday that full cooperation of all members of the international community was necessary in the fight against terrorism, one of the biggest evils of the modern world. We, thus, see this trial as additional assistance to the efforts of the whole international community in their fight against terrorism, and as a clear sign that all perpetrators of such wrongdoing shall be brought to justice, the statement said. Croatia also calls on Libya to accept the American and British initiative and enable the trial to be held, thus confirming its stance against terrorism. This would create conditions for the United Nations to suspend sanctions imposed on Libya under the UN Security Council Resolution 883, the Ministry said. A bomb, placed in America's PAN AM flight 103, exploded above the Scottish village of Lockerbie in December 1988, killing 270 people. Two Libyans have been accused of the terrorist act.
