PREFECT KOENIG SATISFIED WITH RESTRUCTURING OF BOGDANOVCI

( Editorial: --> 6123 ) BOGDANOVCI, August 26 (Hina) - Rudolf Koenig, Prefect of the Vukovar-Srijem County on Wednesday visited Bogdanovci, one of the most devastated villages in the Croatian Danube Region (eastern Croatia). During the visit he was informed about the process of the restructuring of this village greatly damaged by war by the Bogdanovci Municipal Head Pavica Filkovac. "Although one of the most devastated villages in the Vukovar - Srijem County, Bogdanovci is an excellent example of high-quality, efficient reconstruction. Much credit for a great number of new houses no doubt goes to the municipal authorities, but also to the local population, who has become actively involved in the reconstruction of their village," Koenig said. Currently 222 houses are being restored, 44 more than planned, which is another indicator of the reconstructing success, Filkovac said. Prefect Koenig added that, unlike in Bogdanovci, the restructuring process in other war-damaged places in the Vukovar - Srijem County was extremely slow. One of the reasons was that many owners had not yet gathered all necessary documentation, which in its turn slowed down the issuing of restructuring approvals. The Prefect announced a meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Reconstruction and Development at the beginning of September with the purpose of accelerating the reconstruction process. "The 2,180 housing units, whose reconstruction is under way in the Vukovar - Srijem County, represents only 50 per cent of buildings to be reconstructed, and the end of year is our deadline", Koenig said.
