DUBROVNIK, Aug 6 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa,
accompanied by the Government commissioner for Dubrovnik County,
Luka Siljeg, on Thursday visited the Peljesac peninsula (southern
Adriatic), caught in a disastrous fire Wednesday night.
Matesa visited the village of Kucista, where several houses were
destroyed by fire, as well as the village of Vignja, where two
women, aged 67 and 24, were killed in the fire.
Commending the fire brigades which last night made great efforts to
contain the fire, Matesa said the Government would do all it can to
help in the reconstruction of the area as soon as possible.
Ţhe Prime Minister expressed hope that there would be no need for
further evacuation of residents as weather conditions were
becoming more favourable for fire brigades.
