BUGOJNO AND RAMA OFFICIALS SIGN UNDERSTANDING MEMORANDUM

( Editorial: --> 1285 ) BUGOJNO, Aug 2 (Hina) - Officials of the Bugojno and Rama municipalities on Saturday night signed a memorandum on understanding on the return of Croats to Bugojno and Bosniaks (Moslems) to Rama. The memorandum was signed after six-hour talks mediated by international mediator for the Croat-Moslem Federation Christian Schwartz-Schilling. The municipal officials were given a deadline until the end of August to vacate two or more housing units to enable the return of their pre-war owners to their homes. Bugojno municipal head Dzevad Mlaco pledged to evict displaced Bosniaks from Croat houses in Bugojno. After the return of Bosniaks to their own reconstructed homes in Rama, police is to secure the Croat property until the return of their owners. The memorandum stresses the need to set up Croats in the Bugojno municipal assembly, in line with their professional qualifications and the 1991 census. The deadline for this task is also the end of August. Rama municipal head Jerko Pavicevic pledged to establish a joint municipal administration and to draft a plan of employing Bosniaks by the end of two weeks. Pavicevic and Mlaco are to draw up an estimate of the state of houses and flats of displaced aldermen, officials in municipal bodies of authority and Croat Bosnian Federation police officers. The memorandum stipulates the officials of Rama and Bugojno must not allow further sales of nationalised property until the adoption of the Restitution Act. They are called upon to protect the property of residents, at the insisting of Bugojno Croats to cease the construction of an Islamic centre on land which had belonged to Croats before the nationalisation.
