TENJA, July 24 (Hina) - A plate was placed on the building of the
Local Committee in Tenja, a district of Osijek, eastern Croatia, on
Friday, thus marking the integration of the district into Osijek's
system.
This also marked the end of Tenja's status as temporary
municipality it was given before the April 1997 election by the then
UN transitional administrator for eastern Croatia.
The temporary municipality was established for one year. A recent
decision of the Croatian Administration Ministry stipulated that
the Tenja Municipality should be reintegrated into the system of
the City of Osijek as a Local Committee by the end of July.
Placing the plate on the Local Committee building, Osijek Mayor
Zlatko Kramaric called on local residents to be patient.
Problems can be resolved only through dialogue, he emphasised.
The Osijek City Authorities want for all parts of the town to
develop equally, Kramaric said, and called on county and state
authorities to take part in the reconstruction of Tenja.
In 1991 Tenja had 8,000 inhabitants. Three thousand were exiled
after the Serbian aggression on Croatia. To date 350 persons
returned.
