SARAJEVO, July 16 (Hina) - The largest Bosniak (Muslim) party in
Bosnia-Herzegovina has announced it could boycott this September's
elections unless municipal poll results in Srebrenica are not
implemented.
Srebrenica was a Bosniak enclave in eastern Bosnia which, despite
being declared a United Nations protection zone, was seized by
Bosnian Serb forces in 1995, who committed untold crimes against
the town's population.
"If Srebrenica's provisional executive committee does not at least
start functioning by September, the SDA (Party of Democratic
Action) does not exclude the possibility it will boycott the
forthcoming general elections as a sign of protest," party vice-
president Halid Genjac said in an interview published on Thursday
in the Sarajevo daily "Dnevni avaz".
Genjac said that Srebrenica was a painful issue for Bosniaks and it
was the only municipality in the Bosnian Serb entity (Republika
Srpska) where they received an absolute majority, yet the results
of last September's local elections had not been implemented.
"We blame Premier (Milorad) Dodik and the Republika Srpska
government for this situation," he said.
Ţhe SDA also leads the Bosniak-dominated Coalition for a United and
Democratic Bosnia-Herzegovina.
