COMMEMORATION HELD AT JAZOVKA

( Editorial: --> 2889 ) SOSICE, June 22 (Hina) - A commemoration was held on Monday at the Jazovka pit, about 30 km west of Zagreb, for at least 200 soldiers and civilians from World War Two who were executed by the partisans and had their bodies thrown into the pit. The commemoration was organised by the Croatian Pure Party of Rights (HCSP) and six non-government associations. At the memorial wreaths were laid, candles lit and a mass was held. The Jazovka crime and all other crimes against Croatians were for 50 years by force covered in silence and their victims covered in lies, said HCSP president Ivan Gabelica. The killers of those Croats are not still even today, they try to show themselves as anti-fascists and fighters for freedom and democracy. However, if they are what they advocate, why didn't they apply the conventions of International War Rights towards those prisoners, but killed them savagely, asked Gabelica, advocating the trial of those criminals regardless of their ideological symbols and commitments. "We did not choose 22 June by chance to pay honour to the Jazovka victims. By this we wish to protest against celebrating that day of national betrayal and Croatian shame", said Ante Djapic, Croatian Party of Rights president. He repeated a request for the repeal of Amnesty Law and for the return of Serbs to Croatia to be banned. Among the few hundred gathered, mainly elderly witnesses to the Jazovka crimes or victims' relatives, only one person displayed Ustasha symbols. (hina) jn bag/ha 221646 MET jun 98
