CONSTITUTIONAL COURT PRESIDENT DENIES ACCUSATIONS

( Editorial: --> 5919 ) ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - President of the Constitutional Court denied on Friday that he was violating the Constitution by being also president of Croatian Red Cross, for which he was criticised at a HDZ press conference by Vladimir Seks, vice-president of the HDZ and a member of Parliament. "Holding an unsalaried office in a charity organisation, such as Croatian Red Cross, is not a public office prohibited to me by the Constitution", Crnic said, and stressed that this was a "honorary, voluntary, unpaid" office. "However, I can understand those who only believe in well-paid positions in supervisory or management boards," Crnic said. (hina) jn jfk/as 221933 MET may 98
