SARAJEVO, May 20 (Hina) - Sarajevo's daily "Oslobodjenje" on
Wednesday published an interview with Croatian Ambassador to
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Darinko Bago.
Explaining efforts the Croatian government is investing in
enabling the return of refugees, Bago stressed that during the
adoption of instructions for obtaining documents for the return of
refugees, the government was lead by the basic principle that the
return had to be individual.
The government was also lead by the principle of the equality of
rights of all Croatian citizens, Bago said.
He added Croatia could not accept people to be crammed into busses
and be taken to their homes, because it could cause various
incidents, Bago said.
He said there were Serbs who did not want to return to Croatia. The
Croatian government is at the moment buying off some 300 of their
houses. In this way, the government is creating a housing fund for
the accommodation of exiled Croats who are currently accommodated
in the houses of Serbs who had left Croatia, and is at the same time
creating conditions for the return and stay of refugees who want to
return, Bago said.
He stressed that Croatia intended to sign a special agreement with
the Serb republic in Bosnia-Herzegovina on the return of refugees.
He described all comments on this in public as a part of the internal
election campaign in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Asked to comment on the election of Ante Jelavic as president of the
Bosnian Croatian democratic Union (HDZ) party, Bago said it was
obvious that the entire party's convention had passed under great
stress following the demise of Croatian Defence Minister Gojko
Susak who was from Herzegovina.
"I believe the president of the Bosnia-Herzegovina HDZ will
undoubtedly conduct the party's policy well," Bago said.
