REMAINS OF 380 VICTIMS EXHUMED FROM VUKOVAR NEW CEMETERY SO FAR

( Editorial: --> 5077 ) VUKOVAR, May 19 (Hina) - The remains of 380 victims have been exhumed from the New Cemetery in Vukovar, Brsadin and several single graves in the Vukovar area since April 28. The remains of 183 persons have been identified. According to Ivan Grujic, head of the Government's Commission for Imprisoned and Missing Persons, 39 bodies were exhumed Monday and Tuesday. They are currently being identified, while in the next three days some 60 families will be called for further identification. The government commission said 21 victims of Serbian aggression on Croatia were exhumed today. Some of them had their hands tied behind their back with wire or rope. The remains of a 60-year-old woman with a rope around her neck were also exhumed today. Croatia possesses exact data that more than 300 detained, missing and abducted persons are buried in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Grujic said. "We don't know exactly who these people are, but we do know exactly where they are buried and now we want that they be exhumed, but only in the presence of our representatives," he said. More than 40 people registered as detained, missing or abducted have been exhumed at the New Cemetery in Vukovar, Grujic pointed out. Today exhumation teams began searching a well in Vukovar believed to contain the bodies of an entire family with children. Grujic said exhumations at Vukovar's New Cemetery would probably continue through to July 1. Since exhumations began, the remains of 106 people transferred to Zagreb for identification have still not been identified. (hina) ha jn /mrb 191845 MET may 98
