ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The Council of Honour of the Croatian
Journalists' Association (HND) Friday discussed a HND Supervisory
Committee demand that charges be pressed against Feral Tribune, a
satirical weekly paper.
The Supervisory Committee wants to press charges on account of a
photomontage which appeared in the March 30, 1998 issue under the
headline "Give Peace A Chance".
At today's session, the HND Council of Honour concluded that
judgements can not be made on satirical articles, in line with
regulations of the Croatian journalists' Code of Honour.
A statement signed by Council president Mirjana Rakic says that
"(..) bearing in mind that every journalist's work is subject to
criticism, as Article 8 of the Code states, the Council of Honour
believes the mentioned satirical photomontage trifles in very poor
taste with innocent victims of tragic war events, in the name of
dubious political messages."
