ZAGREB, May 14 (Hina) - Andrija Hebrang who was suggested by Prime
Minister Matesa on Thursday to become the future Croatian Defence
Minister performed the duty of Health Minister from 1990 to 1992 and
from 1993 until this day.
Since Croatia's gaining of independence, Hebrang performed many
party duties. From 1992 he was an MP at the Croatian National
Parliament, a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
Steering Committee, and at the last party convention in February,
he was elected one of HDZ's vice-presidents.
Hebrang was born on January 27, 1946 in Belgrade. In 1970 he
graduated from the Zagreb Faculty of Medicine; in 1975 he
specialised radiology, and in 1986 earned a doctor's degree in the
field of medical science.
In 1986 Hebrang became a regular university professor at the Zagreb
Faculty of Medicine and in 1992 became the head of the "Merkur"
hospital's Radiology Department.
Hebrang published 96 professional and scientific works in domestic
and foreign magazines, and held lectures at about 50 congresses at
home and abroad.
