SARAJEVO, April 6 (Hina) - SFOR troops ended their weekend
inspection operation of Bosnian Serb police forces in the Pale area
by confiscating a large number of illegal weapons.
On Monday SFOR Sarajevo spokesman Louis Garneau said that during
the operation all special police force members were inspected and
the process of identifying them would begin from this morning in
order to confirm whether they had the necessary permission to
perform police service duties.
Upon inspecting the Famos factory in Pale where part of the police
were housed, Italian SFOR troops discovered and confiscated 10
machine guns, 1500 bullets and 50 ammunition containers.
Major Garneau said Stabilisation Force troops last weekend
inspected nine locations in the Pale area, including the Panorama
hotel which houses the offices of Bosnian Presidency member Momcilo
Krajisnik and Bosnian Serb Parliament Speaker Dragan Kalinic.
Those facilities are also secured by Bosnian Serb special police.
The SFOR spokesman said the NATO-led forces would continue to
supervise the conduct of the special police until it was totally
restructured according to rules which applied to regular police
forces in both of Bosnia's entities.
Until then the special police would be treated as an integral part
of the military forces which means they will be subjected to strong
restrictions decided by the SFOR command.
