STATUS OF BRCKO WILL DETERMINE FATE OF DODIK'S GOVERNMENT

( Editorial: --> 1256 ) SARAJEVO, Feb 11 (Hina) - Representatives of the Coalition for an Integral and Democratic Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Bosnian Serb parliament will deny their support for Republika Srpska Premier Milorad Dodik should the arbitration commission decide that Brcko should remain permanently in the Bosnian Serb entity. This decision was made at a meeting held in Sarajevo on Wednesday night between Alija Izetbegovic, Haris Silajdzic, Rasim Kadic and Ibrahim Spahic - presidents of four parties which make up the Coalition. A statement issued after the meeting said that the participants agreed that in adopting the decision on the status of Brcko the international arbitrator had to abide by the principles of legality and justice, as envisaged by the Dayton agreement. "Should the arbitrator, ignoring those principles under any pretext, make a decision on giving Brcko to Republika Srpska", Coalition representatives would withhold their current support for Dodik's government at the next session of the Bosnian Serb parliament, said the presidents of the four parties. The decision was made after a series of accusations the Sarajevo media directed to Dodik after he refused the possibility of Brcko being proclaimed a district under some kind of special administration and outside of the jurisdiction of any of the two entities. Dodik's government was appointed with a narrow majority, which, among others, included the votes of 18 representatives from the Coalition for an Integral and Democratic Bosnia-Herzegovina, led by Izetbegovic's Party of Democratic Action (SDA). Without the Coalition's support, Dodik would not be able to maintain his post. (hina) rm 112231 MET feb 98
