BRUSSELS, Feb 2 (Hina) - The return of refugees and displaced
persons is an issue whose solution is a condition for political
stability, European Parliament representatives said Monday at
their regular annual meeting with a delegation of the Croatian
National Parliament.
It is therefore necessary to assist all sides in order to create a
climate for reconciliation, they said.
To what extent is the European Union really assisting Croatia, the
head of the European Parliament delegation, Doris Pack, asked
European Commission representative Joerg Kretschmer.
Kretschmer replied that the EU had set aside 20 million ECU for the
construction of flats.
Part of the projects have been realised, he said, adding the
European Commission was ready to test projects for this year.
However, Kretschmer linked these projects with the return of Serbs
from Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to
Croatia.
Pack warned that Croats too have to make use of the assistance, as
they could not stand the injustice of assistance being given to
those who had rebelled and run away.
During talks on freedom of the media, Kretschmer expressed
satisfaction with his talks with representatives of Croatian Radio
Television, whose director Mirko Galic, he said, was determined to
reform the medium.
