SARAJEVO, 30 Jan (Hina) - NATO's Secretary-General Javier Solana
was in Sarajevo on Friday for a brief visit.
I told members of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency today that 1998
must be the year of Bosnia-Herzegovina's democratisation and that
refugees must start returning to Bosnia-Herzegovina, said Solana
at a media conference in Sarajevo.
Saying that in Bosnia-Herzegovina there are still too many
individuals holding weapons, Solana stressed that members of the
Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency have agreed to announce an amnesty
for those who hold weapons as long as they are handed over and stored
securely.
Solana emphasised that he had meaningful discussions with
representatives of opposition parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina and
that their role in the democratisation of the state is important,
expressing hope that they will fulfill this role.
