THE HAGUE, 23 Jan (Hina)- After the hearing of two prosecution
witnesses in the trial of General Tihomir Blaskic on Thursday,the
trial at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former
Yugoslavia (ICTY)was adjourned until 17 February.
During this last stage of the trial (19 to 29 January) the court
heard 14 prosecution witnesses.
General Blaskic has been indicted for grave violations of the
Geneva conventions, crimes against humanity and violations of war
laws and customs, as the commander of the HVO theater of operations
in central Bosnia.
Since the commencement of the trial on 24 June 1997 the prosecutors
called 64 witnesses. Observers believe that hearing of evidence
could be completed by July.
