NEW POREC-PULA BISHOP ORDAINED

( Editorial: --> 3519 ) POREC, Jan 9 (Hina) - The new Porec-Pula Bishop Msgr, Ivan Milovan was ordained and inaugurated in a Eucharistic celebration on Saturday which began with a procession through the streets of Porec (north Adriatic). Present at the procession were the Archbishop of Zagreb Josip Bozanic, Apostolic Nuncio in Croatia, Giulio Eunaudi, Cardinal Franjo Kuharic, 25 bishops and about one hundred priests from the country and abroad. Archbishop of Zagreb and president of the Croatian Bishops' Conference, Josip Bozanic, said "Our homeland Croatia needs people at this historic moment who will connect different groups and levels of citizens, bringing peace and understanding in environments in which we live, who will know how to give advantage to general goodness and who will be ready to cooperate in that field". A member of the Croatian State Commission for Relations with Religious Communities, and Croatian President's Advisor, Branko Jeren, congratulated the new bishop on behalf of the Croatian authority, and relayed the gratitude and congratulations of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman. "We are on the threshold of the third millennium and in times of great challenges for individuals and mankind," Msgr. Milovan said, adding that the Church gave an irreplaceable contribution in the creation of the world. Present at the inauguration were Education and Sports Minister Ljilja Vokic, Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, Franjo Dubrovic of the Reconstruction and Development Ministry, President of the Croatian Cultural Society Josip Bratulic, Istrian County Prefect Stevo Zufic and numerous distinguished people from the county and abroad.
