KUTINA, Jan 7 (Hina) - Representatives of the Danish Red Cross on
Wednesday transferred 116 small houses in Kutina and 80 in
Lipovljani, 70 kilometres south east of Zagreb, under authority of
the Croatian Government's Office for Displaced Persons and
Refugees.
Built by the Danish Red Cross five years ago, the settlements used
to accommodate 3,500 displaced persons. The Danish Red Cross paid
for all expenses through December 31, 1997.
The houses now accommodate 1,400 refugees and displaced persons.
The secretary general of the Danish Red Cross, Joergen Poulsen,
handed the keys to the settlements to the secretary general of the
Office for Displaced Persons and Refugees, Sonja Lovrincic.
The head of the Croatian Red Cross, Nenad Javornik, expressed
gratitude to the Danish branch for the assistance provided over
many years in the spirit of true principles of the Red Cross.
