ZAGREB, Dec 13 (Hina) - Seventy delegations or representatives of foreign countries, international institutions and individuals on Monday attended the funeral for the late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman at Zagreb's Mirogoj
cemetery. The Turkish delegation was headed by President Suleyman Demirel, while leading the Hungarian, Macedonian and Slovene delegations were prime ministers Viktor Orban, Ljubco Georgijevski and Janez Drnovsek. The delegation of Bosnia-Herzegovina consisted chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina Ante Jelavic, co-chairman of the Council of Ministers Svetozar Mihajlovic and vice-president of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina Ejup Ganic. The Russian delegation was led by Trade Minister Andrej Sapovlyantz, the Chinese Education Minister Chemn Zhili. Some EU member countries sent special delegations to the funeral. Foreign Ministry Umberto Rainieri, and the Austrian delegation by
speaker of the Parliament Lower House, Juergen Weiss.
Other European Union member countries were represented by
ambassadors in Croatia, including Britain's Colin Munro, France's
Albert Turot, Germany's Volker Haak and Spain's Antonio Peduaye.
Canada was represented by special Government envoy in Zagreb,
Donald Smith.
The Slovakian delegation was led by vice-premier Ljubomir Fokash,
Bulgarian by Parliament speaker Jordan Sokolov, Ukrainian by
Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitro Tkacz and Polish by Presidential
Chief-of-Staff Ryzsard Kallisz.
The United States were represented by the Ambassador to Croatia,
William Montgomery.
Attending the funeral was also Israeli Ambassador in Zagreb, Nathan
Meron.
Montenegrin Foreign Minister Branko Perovic arrived in Zagreb for
the funeral, and Yugoslavia was represented by the charge
d'affaires at the Yugoslav Embassy in Zagreb, Vladimir Curgus.
Numerous international organisations and institutions also sent
their representatives to President Tudjman's funeral: the United
Nations, European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, the
Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Central
European Initiative and the World Bank.
Former German Foreign Minister Hans Dietrich Genscher, former US
Ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbraith, former US Ambassador at the
Holy See, Thomas Patrick Milady, and Karl Habsburg, the grandson of
the last Austro-Hungarian monarch, also arrived to pay their last
respects to President Tudjman.
