The Croatian delegation visited Japan on the occasion of the
issuance of 1.85 billion kuna (US$251 million) of Croatian
government bonds deposited in Japanese yen, with a four percent
interest rate, and a five-year date due. The bond issuance is
managed by DAIWA SBCM.
During the visit, Minister Skegro held talks with Japanese
colleague Kijuchi Mijazava. According to the Finance Ministry
statement, the two ministers "pointed out that the presentation of
the Republic of Croatia in Japanese financial circles will have
great importance for the future development of overall relations
between the two countries."
The statement says two finance ministers "in particular expressed
satisfaction with Croatia's economic and political stability,
which represents the groundwork for an even more successful
cooperation with Japan."
While in Japan, Skegro met with representatives of the Japan-
Croatia Parliamentarian League, the governor of Japan's central
bank, representatives of Japan's newly-established bank for
international cooperation, and officials of a series of commercial
banks included in Croatia's presentation on the Japanese financial
market.
"Japan's officials and businessmen have been very positive in their
assessment of the economic results which have been arrived at and,
given the interest shown by Japanese investors, said they were sure
Japanese investments in the Republic of Croatia would soon
increase," the Croatian Finance Ministry statement concluded.
