NEW YORK, Nov 25 (Hina) - At a session of the UN General Assembly, Croatia on Wednesday night backed a motion by Australia and the International Olympic Committee (IMO) that Olympic truce be proclaimed, on the model of antique times.
In a speech at the 54th annual UN General Assembly session, permanent Croatian representative at the UN in New York, Ivan Simonovic, said the motion represented an important, tangible contribution of the Olympic movement to UN's most important goal. Simonovic advocated cooperation and joint endeavours by the IMO and the European union in various fields. The Olympics are imbued with the idea of sportsmanship, solidarity and promotion of mutual understanding, thus contributing to a better and more peaceful world, Simonovic said.(hina) lml
