ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - A two-day seminar entitled "Legislation of
Armed Conflicts" started at the Croatian military academy "Petar
Zrinski" in Zagreb on Monday.
The event, which is organised by the Croatian Defence Ministry and
the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), will discus
different aspects in respecting the international war and
humanitarian law during armed conflicts.
The seminar was opened by the head of the Main Staff, Major General
Damir Krsticevic, who said the Croatian Armed Forces based their
system of education on the international war law. This, he said, is
in opposition to the strategy of the Serb aggression on Croatia,
which was based on the violation of the law of war.
Participants in the event were welcomed by the head of the ICRC
Mission to Croatia, Philippe Gaillard, who recalled the Vukovar
tragedy, saying the families of the missing had the right to know
the truth about their fate and seek justice.
Aspiring to join western associations, Croatia has been
modernising its state and legal as well as other systems, including
the armed forces, Gaillard said.
