ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HHO) on Tuesday expressed deep regret and condemned the disarray of reefs laid on the graves of Croats massacred during the Serb aggression and occupation of
eastern Slavonia and Baranja. The Erdut graveyard was desecrated by unidentified persons on October 9. In a press release the HHO states that based on an article published by "Glas Slavonije" of October 13, "members of the HHO visited the Erdut cemetery where they found evident traces of disarrayment of reefs shaped like the Croatian coat of arms. This act", the statement continues "has justly incited the wider public, particularly because these were the graves of violently murdered civilians whose bodies were only recently exhumed and buried properly". "In addition to this being an uncivilised manner of disturbing the peace of the deceased and a harsh insult to the feelings of refugees
ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human
Rights (HHO) on Tuesday expressed deep regret and condemned the
disarray of reefs laid on the graves of Croats massacred during the
Serb aggression and occupation of eastern Slavonia and Baranja. The
Erdut graveyard was desecrated by unidentified persons on October
9.
In a press release the HHO states that based on an article published
by "Glas Slavonije" of October 13, "members of the HHO visited the
Erdut cemetery where they found evident traces of disarrayment of
reefs shaped like the Croatian coat of arms. This act", the
statement continues "has justly incited the wider public,
particularly because these were the graves of violently murdered
civilians whose bodies were only recently exhumed and buried
properly".
"In addition to this being an uncivilised manner of disturbing the
peace of the deceased and a harsh insult to the feelings of refugees
and displaced persons, the act in itself discloses hidden dangers
to the process of peaceful integration", the HHO claims.
The Croatian Helsinki Committee therefore invites the National
Trust Establishment Committee to be present in the region and in
this way disable any unwanted repercussions, the HHO statement
signed by executive director Bojan Munjin said.
