ZAGREB, Oct 8 (Hina) - Another round of negotiations between the
ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and six parties of the
Croatian Opposition n the electoral legislation ended in the
Croatian National Sabor Friday without results.
President of the Croatian National Sabor Vlatko Pavletic, who
called the meeting, told reporters that no progress was made in
negotiations between the HDZ and the Opposition Six.
The Opposition demanded that editors of the Croatian Radio
Television, who are members of the HDZ Head Committee, resign. This
is their condition for the continuation of negotiations. President
of the HDZ parliamentary bench Vladimir Seks said this was
unacceptable for the HDZ. He stressed that the Opposition failed to
accept a possibility of freezing the membership of Croatian Radio
Television editors in the HDZ Main Committee.
It is up to the HDZ now to show whether it is ready for any kind of
compromise, said Ante Tukic on behalf of the Opposition Six.
According to Tukic, the HDZ's unyielding standpoint on the
television could be interpreted as it's great interest in Croatian
Radio Television in regard to the upcoming elections.
When asked about the date of the elections, Seks said it would soon
be announced to the public. According to him, the earliest deadline
for the elections is December 19, and the latest is the end of
January.
Seks said that a possibility of increasing the number of electoral
units in Croatia from current nine to 12 was being discussed. Also
discussed was a possibility of decreasing the number of
representatives in electoral units from 12 to ten, Seks added.
