The 5,661-metre-long tunnel had been dug from its southern end by
"Konstruktor" whereas "Hidroelektra" company had dug it from the
northern end.
The completion of works was attended by the Minister of
Development, Immigration and Reconstruction, Jure Radic, who
thanked the workers for completing the works six months ahead of the
deadline.
Radic reminded that there had been no casualties during the
implementation of the project, which is the largest infrastructure
project in Croatia so far. The official ceremony marking the
completion of works will be held next week.
The "Sveti Rok" tunnel is a part of a highway running from northern
to southern Croatia. The beginning of works on the tunnel was marked
by Croatian President Franjo Tudjman in August 1993.
