He was apprehended soon after at the Croatian-Slovene border.
Zagreb police commissioner Jakob Bukvic told reporters that Mate
Oreskovic, 28, is a suspended police officer whose badge had been
confiscated on August 19.
At the time of arrest, a gun was found in Oreskovic's possession,
suspected of being the gun used in the shooting spree, Bukvic said.
His ex-wife, Gordana Oreskovic, 26, judge Ljiljana Hvalec, 39, and
attorney Hajra Prohic, 43, were killed on the scene. Typist Stanka
Cvetkovic, 38, has sustained injuries and was taken to hospital,
Bukvic said.
Justice Minister Zvonimir Separovic told reporters the shooting
occurred as a result of slack security at the municipal court, as
Oreskovic took the weapon inside despite an automatic and hand-held
metal detector at the court entrance.
There were four court police officers and one justice police
officer working at the court at the time the shooting occurred. All
of them have been suspended and disciplinary procedures have been
initiated against them, Separovic said.
