CAKOVEC, Sept 21 (Hina) - Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa on Tuesday
officially opened a waste water filtering facility in the northern
Croatian town of Cakovec.
The facility is the largest project of its kind in Croatia and its
construction cost about DM13.97 million, of which 50 per cent had
been provided by the Croatian Water Management. Another DM1.53
million was invested into the installation of sewers, said the
director of the Medjimurje Water Management, Josip Zorcec.
The waste water filtering facility is a major contribution to the
protection of environment, especially in settlements located along
the Trnava river, where waste water had been discharged until the
opening of the filtering facility.
In terms of economy and infrastructure, Medjimurje is the best
developed part of Croatia, said Matesa, adding that "the gas and
power supply network, the telecommunications system, drinking
water supply, and the sewerage are better than in the Croatian
capital of Zagreb".
Matesa also reminded that DM0.51 billion had been invested from the
state budget into different projects in Medjimurje County,
including the highway Zagreb-Gorican.
Present at today's ceremony were also Defence Minister Pavao
Miljavac, the Minister of Physical Planning, Construction, and
Housing, Marko Sirac, State Water Administration director Zorislav
Balic, Croatian Water Management general director Stjepan Sturlan,
Varazdin County Prefect Marijan Mlinaric and the first Medjimurje
County Prefect and now Supreme Court President Marijan Ramuscak.
An incident of political and procedural nature happened when
Medjimurje County Prefect Branko Levacic and his deputies Dragutin
Lesar and Marijan Vuksic, accompanied by the County Assembly
president Ivan Hrnjec, left the site of the ceremony because of the
presence of Supreme Court President Ramuscak.
Asked to comment on the incident, Premier Matesa said he regretted
that Prefect Levacic was not present at the ceremony, as the event
was about the county he was in charge of. "Also, it is sad that
Levacic cannot stand the Supreme Court President, and allows
himself... not to attend the ceremony", Matesa said, adding the
question of Levacic's responsibility would be discussed.
Supreme Court President Ramuscak told reporters Levacic's
behaviour was not only in conflict with good manners but was also
politically detrimental for the population of Medjimurje because
"he (Levacic) refused to welcome the Premier who arrived in an
official visit to Medjimurje county. I came here as an ordinary
citizen, as the first Medjimurje Canton Prefect... and not in my
capacity as Supreme Court President", said Ramuscak.
