ICTY APPLAUDS CROATIA'S DECISION TO EXTRADITE TUTA

ZAGREB, Sept 2 (Hina) - The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Thursday expressed satisfaction with Croatia's decision to extradite Mladen Naletilic Tuta, indicted of crimes against humanity, to the Tribunal, but still holds Croatia has not fulfilled all its commitments. This is a positive development of events, ICTY prosecution spokesman Paul Risley told Hina Thursday. The Zagreb County Court Council on Wednesday decided to rule in favour of the request of the ICTY for the extradition of Mladen Naletilic Tuta, as all conditions from the Constitutional Law on Croatia's cooperation with the Tribunal have been met, and the deferral of Naletilic to the Tribunal has been granted. ICTY spokesman Jim Landale told Hina Naletilic has to be deferred to the Tribunal as soon as possible so he could be tried alongside Vinko Martinovic Stela who was deferred to the Hague in August. ICTY spokesman Jim Landale told Hina Naletilic has to be deferred to the Tribunal as soon as possible so he could be tried alongside Vinko Martinovic Stela who was deferred to the Hague in August. The ICTY indicted Naletilic and Martinovic last year for crimes against humanity, grievous breaches of the Geneva Conventions and violations of war laws and customs during the Croat-Moslem conflicts in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1993. Both spokesmen stressed that by extraditing Naletilic, Croatia still has not fulfilled all requests stated by the ICTY president Gabrielle Kirk McDonald in a letter to the UN Security Council last week. Landale said it was up to the Security Council to reach a decision now. However, he said, I would like to underline two aspects of the request, which are the extradition of Naletilic and the Tribunal's jurisdiction over the "Storm" and "Flash" Croatian military and police operations. He stressed the ICTY Statute stipulates the Tribunal had more authority over national judiciary. (hina) lml
