Srpska condemned the arrest of general Momir Talic accused of war
crimes and at the same time called on the local population and
military units in that entity to remain calm.
In a press release issued by the ministry Thursday, Talic's arrest
has been described by local media as and intolerable act towards one
of the highest ranking officials in Republika Srpska.
The ministry believes, Talic was significant in implementing the
military aspects of the Dayton Accord and in strengthening
confidence between the two entities and as such his arrest is
unacceptable.
Talic's immediate release has been demanded.
Zivko Radisic, the Serb representative in the Bosnia presidency has
also protested against Talic's arrest claiming that this could
damage relations between Republika Srpska and the international
community.
Radisic stated that the most significant threat to future
cooperation could be secret charges being brought in The Hague.
Sarajevo media however, paid great attention to the arrest
reminding the public of the role Talic had in the recent war where
her was responsible for massive ethnic cleansing.
"Noone is Untouchable for The Hague", was the title of an article
published in the Sarajevo daily "Dnevni avaz".
The Sarajevo press comments that Talic's arrest is indication that
justice is about to reach Radovan Karidzic himself and that it can
be hoped that all those responsible for war crimes will soon be
brought to justice.
