ZAGREB, Aug 17 (Hina) - Before the very start of the World Military
Games in Zagreb, we were impressed with the level of organisation
and preparations, and now, ahead of the closing of the games, we
must conclude the organisation of the WMG in Zagreb was
exceptional, president of the Council for International Military
Sports (CISM), Gianni Gola, said in Zagreb on Tuesday.
Gola stressed the excellent preparation of all sports facilities,
accommodation, transport capacities and nutrition provided.
He also commended the cooperation of the Croatian army and civilian
structures in the organisation of the Games, stressing the
spectators turned up in numbers above all expectations and the
excellent results in the end.
Director of the 2nd World Military Games institution, Lieutenant
General Josip Lucic described the Games as successful.
"The eighteen months of preparations yielded results in the
realisation (of the games) and I can say the Games passed without
significant problems and all sectors fulfilled their tasks
successfully," Lucic said.
He stressed the organisation of these Games represented for Croatia
more than a very successful exercise in the ability to accept,
register, transport and feed a large number of people, which gives
the Croatian arm a confirmation that it could assist civilians in
any case of natural disaster.
Lucic's deputy Matija Ljubek expressed satisfaction with the
results achieved by Croatian athletes (17 gold, 22 silver and 22
bronze medals), and their correct, professional and dedicated
attitudes at the contests.
About 6,500 athletes from 81 countries took part in the Games which
were covered by more than 400 reporters, 150 of whom were foreign
reporters.
